Hair Loss Prevention Methods

Hair loss is a common condition that affects most men and women at some point in their lives. There are many reasons as to why hair loss occurs. With reasons as diverse as ageing, genetics, male pattern baldness, vitamin and mineral deficiency or even stress, there is no one way to cure, treat or prevent hair loss. Try these different strategies to reduce the chances of losing hair.

1. Meditation and exercise

Often, hair loss is created by excessive amounts of stress. This is because stress produces a hormone called cortisol which makes other hormones in the body fluctuate. This can speed the process of balding is you are already susceptible to it. The best way to prevent this is to control your level of stress.

Some effective methods of achieving this is through meditation – you can try guided meditation or active forms of mediation such as yoga and tai chi. Or, just get active! Cardio activities are a great way to release cortisol and relieve stress.

2. Minoxidil

You may have heard of a product called Regaine, which is made of Minoxidil. It doesn’t restore lost hair, but it helps to hold on to the hair you have and regrow a bit. It basically increases blood flow and delivers nutrients and oxygen to the follicle to help it grow. It comes in both a topical treatment and foam.

3. Nutrition

A deficiency of vitamin A can lead to a dry and itchy scalp. You need to consume foods that are high in proteins, Vitamin B12, iron, zinc and Omega 6 fatty acids. Biotin (Vitamin B7) is also known to fight hair loss. These essential nutrients can be found in egg and dairy products. Consuming dairy products is a great option for hair loss prevention. Vitamin D deficiency can also be associated with hair loss. Some great food nutrient sources for hair loss consists salmon, nuts and seeds, spinach and seaweed.

4. Laser treatment

Laser therapy can increase blood flow in the scalp and stimulate metabolism in the hair follicles. This stimulates follicles that are in a state of decline and make the existing hair fuller and thicker.

5. Limit use of hot styling tools

Heat has the ability to weaken hair proteins. When you constantly heat and dry your hair, it causes the hair to be brittle and fragile, resulting in hair loss. Although this can be difficult, try to aim for natural drying and avoid drying with hair dryers, hot curlers, hot brushes and hair straighteners on a regular.

6. Use the right products

Utilise the right shampoo and conditioner that is sensitive on your hair and won’t aggravate hair loss. Also consider massage oils as massaging your scalp will increase blood flow to the hair follicles, condition the scalp and strengthen your hair’s roots. Oils like coconut or almond oil are extremely beneficial for hair loss prevention.

A range that we can recommend here at AMR that we find has worked for many of our clients is the Fanola Energy range. The Energy range is ideal for helping fight hair loss. Formulated with Oligo-Elements, Vegetal Proteins and herb extracts, the shampoo is gentle and is ideal for fine and weak hair.

Especially ideal is the Energy Prevention Lotion, formulated with Rosemary, Nettle and Oligo elements. The product has purifying and rebalancing properties that nourish and stimulate bulb activity. The stimulating action of the soya proteins in the product carry out a stimulating action that leaves the hair full of vigour and tone. It is so simple to use after shampooing and applied directly onto the scalp for a massage. The product is highly potent so it may cause a bit of redness.
