Lipstick comes in many shapes and forms, but the lipstick prototype that is constantly overlooked is the lip stain or lip tint. The lip stain has been around for a while but hasn’t really made an impression due to its muted tones. I used to think, “Pfft what’s the point? There is no colour pay-off at all and it will rub off in 10 seconds anyway…” How wrong I was!
How it works initially is as a dye, a temporary one. The pigmentation in the dye enhances natural tones. Lip stains are either water or gel based, hence why it feels wet with the first application then it dries quickly to a matte finish. They come in different variations: you have your texta-looking marker tube, ye old faithful sponge tip wand applicator and the new and improved highly more pigmented peel off stain.
Lip stains are a new way to miraculously have natural and subtle flushes of colour without the trouble of reapplying every time you eat, drink or wipe your mouth. Lipsticks tend to feel heavy on the lip with layers, but you do not get this with a lip stain. One layer is all you need to give you a hint of colour. Packing the colour on will make your lip look more pigmented and still feel weightless. Lip stains don’t give you that waxy layered feel and it tastes like nothing.
You can usually tell when someone has lipstick on as the colour is darker and the consistency is creamier. When you wear lipstick, you generally have to do the rest of your face makeup. However, with lip stains, you can just add this hint of colour on your pout and head out the door without doing the rest of your face, giving you the natural “I just woke up like this” look. Another benefit of the lip stain is that it is fuss-free with its long lasting and quick drying formula. Lip stains are kiss-proof and smudge-proof, so you don’t have to worry about it transferring onto your teeth or sticking to your lips on a windy day like with what a lip gloss does.
So, there you have it guys, why not give the lip stain a go? It may or may not change your life, but it certainly did change mine. VIVA LA LIP STAIN!
