Every year for the month of November, we celebrate as a country the growth of facial hair on the upper lip for the MOVEMBER movement to spread awareness for Men’s health issues. Come the month of September and not many are aware but Liptember is charitable campaign held throughout the month of September to spread awareness about Women’s Mental Health. One in three women will suffer from depression or anxiety during their lifetime.
The Liptember organisation is a diverse group of women and men committed to make it their priority to improve the health of all Australian women who take on countless responsibilities of being mothers, grandmothers, sisters, daughters, wives, and partners. And the reason why Liptember is primarily focused on Women’s health. This is because much of the current mental health research is focused on men’s mental health. As a result, a number of programs and prevention strategies that have been instilled but are unable to fully assist the mental health side of things of the female population. And because of this, Liptember was created.
Liptember is a movement dedicated to educating the community about Women’s mental health as well as raise funds towards specific mental health research and support programs. Funds raised throughout the month of September are donated to charities such as the Centre of Women’s Health, Lifeline, Batyr, RUOK?, The Jean Hailes Foundation and The Pretty Foundation.
