When the colder months hit, we tend to cover ourselves with layers upon layers of clothes to keep our bodies warm. We hibernate in winter and choose to stay in than to venture out into the cold, preferring to sit down and relax with a cheeseboard platter, insulated heating and heart-warming cups of hot chocolate or even a cheeky glass of red.
However, just because it’s winter, that doesn’t mean our nails do not have the chance to be show stoppers. Here are some amazing colours to keep the winter blues away.
Plums and Berries
This bewitching colour makes you feel spellbound. With the deep variation of purples, this hue exuberates a sense of magical charm. The bold statement that it makes is quite eye catching, depending on what angle the light catches it can come off looking almost black depending on how dark of a purple you want to go. This hue painted makes you resonate like a spell caster in your own right.
Greys and Taupes
The colour grey can be misconceived with words like misery, gloomy and dull. Nevertheless, only starting a few years ago this grey trend is hot, hot, HOT in demand. Now, not a normal colour you would choose for the people who love and stick to their traditional pinks and reds. This new age colour is soft and neutral being the mixed spawn of our good old black and white retrospectively. Grey is an understated look. As, considering this colour is booming, the new trend is to mix the grey palette with colours such as baby blues, lilacs, and beiges. There you go, forming the hybrid Greige.
Oxbloods and wines
This is my absolute go-to in winter. Quite graphic names oxblood and wine but this beautiful colour has a modern and sophisticated type of vampiness in a red. This ultra chic colour has taken the fashion scene by storm, so if it’s on the racks why not have this colour on our nails, too? These hues are sexy and will suit any skin tone. Whether you rather call it burgundy, cranberry or maroon even go and paint the town with this kind of red.
Nudes and browns
Nudes are always in whichever season, but assorted in with browns you get a sense of the warm and fuzzies. With hot cocoa, delicious coffee smells and crackling fireplaces. Browns can be forgotten with dark red and deep maroons overshadowing this hue. But browns are so earthy in tone and warmth it is refreshing to see this colour on your nails. Whether it be matte or glossy, light or dark, browns are making its comeback into the fashion scene. Think hazelnut and caramel rich hues. When in doubt, brown it out.
Dusty Roses and Mauves
For the people out there that are afraid and cannot rock an intense colour such as your oxbloods and berries, try this one on for size. Your nice and feminine ladylike colours of pinks. From your bright candy pinks, to your highlighter neon pinks, you have your dusty rose pink or mauves. From one of my favourite movies of all time, Steel Magnolias, I can remember this quote:
Shelby: “My colors are blush and bashful”.
M”Lynn: “Her colors are pink and pink.”
Shelby: “My colors are blush and bashful Momma.”
M’Lynn: “How pretentious is this wedding to going to get I ask you?”
Shelby: “My colors are blush and bashful, I have chosen two shades of pink, one is much deeper than the other.”
According to Shelby played by Julia Roberts, this colour has such a sweet sheen to it, that you just look at it and sigh.
