At the young age of 14, our founder Ammar Ahmed already had entrepreneurial pursuits. Under the name of Dr. Hair and Beauty Supplies, he set up a stall at the Sydney Royal Easter Show and made a turnover of $8000 in 11 days. Unfortunately, theft and investment did not cover the overall expenses, so the entire ordeal was a bust.

At age 15, Ammar first exhibited at a spa and beauty expo with the investment of $5900. He operated under a new name AMR International as the previous name was deemed unreliable. The exhibition was again unsuccessful and resulted in a loss for AMR.

Now at age 16, Ammar was selling salon furniture on Ebay which successfully brought AMR to its first 56sqm (7x8m) premise at 18a Louise Ave, Ingleburn. His first commercial lease was signed and he sustained rental repayments by taking on a full time job as a nightshift cleaner for the Waste and Environmental Services.

Six months into the original lease, business was booming and more space was required, bringing AMR to a 150sqm unit in the same complex. In an unfortunate event, the complex was burned down and AMR suffered a heavy loss with the unit heavily under insured.

AMR is relocated to a 250sqm facility on Williamson Rd, Ingleburn and hires its first staff member. Within the first three months of launching, AMR experienced a growth in sales and an additional four staff members were hired.

AMR began creating our own brands directly from the manufacturers straight to the salons, aiding in the birth of brands such as Tamara Rose and Dumb Blonde. The amrhair.com.au website is born and generates $6.95 on its first week of trading, selling one can of silhouette hairspray. AMR leases an additional 400sqm, bringing our space to a total of 650sqm.

AMR started to attend overseas exhibitions in order to network with international suppliers. Business is booming and AMR hires an additional 500sqm in Smeaton Grange as a storage facility. This is the year Fanola joins AMR.

AMR’s Founder develops a valuable relationship with the world’s largest distributor of hair products, Nazih Group, who have over 5000 stores in 36 different countries. Ammar travels to Spain, Italy, Korea, Japan, China and Isreal to witness their operations and bring AMR to new heights.

AMR acquires JAC Manufacturing, the company that produced the label 18in1. A change in operations saw a growth in the brand and resulted in a deal signed with PRC for the export of the complete range to be sold in 4000 stores across China and Hong Kong. Now in a 1600 sqm facility with 11 staff members.

With the barber industry in boom, Barber Culture is born and AMR is awarded exclusivity to the prestigious “Elchapo and Escobar” barber chairs generating 300K in sales within the first month. JAC Manufacturing begins testing a revolutionary hair loss product to develop.

AMR Hair and Beauty supplies undertakes massive rebranding and development of amr.com.au and launches its first blog. Our team now sits on 60 employees and growing. AMR launches Fanola and AMR UK through distributors and online. AMR launches Inebrya and signs a 25-year contract with Pettenon Cosmetics. AMR turns over 24 million and does not operate on any bank financing, allowing us to not lift any prices during the lower AUD.
