Collection: Hair Rollers

Hair Rollers

Hair rollers are the classic tool for creating volume, waves, and curls without heat damage. Whether you are setting a style for a special occasion or adding bounce to everyday hair, rollers deliver reliable results. This collection brings together professional perm rods, self-gripping Velcro rollers, and thermal rollers in a range of sizes, each creating a different effect, from tight ringlets to soft, voluminous waves.

Why Use Hair Rollers

Rollers reshape hair with tension rather than heat, which is what sets them apart from curling irons. The result is a softer, more natural curl, and hair that has not been through a hot plate to get there.

  • No heat damage. Wet setting and Velcro rollers use no heat at all, and thermal rollers work at a far lower temperature than a wand or iron.

  • A natural finish. Rollers create a curl that falls and moves, rather than the uniform spiral a wand produces.

  • Lift where you want it. Because the roller sits at the root, volume builds from the scalp rather than being brushed in afterwards.

  • Gentle reshaping. The hair is held in shape while it dries or cools, so the curl sets without heat forcing the cuticle open.

How to Choose Your Roller

The size of the roller decides the size of the curl. Smaller rollers create tighter, bouncier curls, and larger rollers create soft waves and volume.

  • For tight curls and ringlets. Choose Velcro rollers in 13mm or 15mm, or the smallest perm rods. These suit short hair, perms, and defined curls.

  • For medium curls and waves. Choose 33mm or 36mm rollers. These create classic curl patterns that work across most hair lengths.

  • For soft waves. Choose 44mm or 48mm rollers. You get movement through the lengths rather than a defined curl.

  • For volume and body. Choose 57mm or 64mm rollers. At these diameters, you get lift at the roots with very little curl.

  • For wet setting. Perm rods are the go-to. They sit snugly against the scalp and hold hair in place while it dries, giving a uniform curl from root to ends.

  • For quick styling. Velcro rollers are the fastest option. They grip on their own, so they need no pins or clips, and they go straight into dry hair.

  • For heat styling. Thermal rollers hold heat through an insulated steel wire. Warm them, roll them in, and secure with roller pins while they cool.

How to Use Hair Rollers

  • For wet setting. Apply a styling lotion or mousse to damp hair. Roll sections around the perm rod and secure with a clip. Leave to dry completely, then remove gently and style.

  • For volume and waves. Apply a volumising product to damp hair and blow-dry the roots. Roll sections onto Velcro rollers and leave them for 10 to 15 minutes while the hair cools. Remove gently and brush through for soft waves.

  • For heat styling. Heat the thermal rollers as instructed. Roll sections onto the warm rollers and secure with roller pins, then leave to cool completely before removing.

Hair Rollers at Home

Rollers are not only a salon tool. Plenty of people set their own hair at home, and with a little practice, it becomes quick. Velcro rollers go into dry hair and come out fifteen minutes later, which makes them the easiest place to start. For a longer-lasting set, roll damp hair before bed and sleep in it, then unwind in the morning.

If you are new to it, ask your hairdresser to show you how to section and wrap the hair. One demonstration saves a lot of trial and error.

Tips for Perfect Roller Sets

  • Hair should be completely dry before removing rollers. Damp hair will not hold a set.

  • Use a styling product before rolling. Mousse, setting lotion, or curl cream helps hold the curl.

  • Roll hair away from the face for a softer look. Roll toward the face for more defined curls.

  • Let the hair cool completely before brushing. This sets the curl and makes it last longer.

  • Brush gently. Over-brushing pulls the curl pattern apart.
