Tape In Hair Extensions

If you want longer, fuller hair without the daily hassle of clipping in and out, tape in extensions are the answer. They are semi-permanent, sit flat against your head, and blend so naturally that they are hard to spot. Once applied, you forget they are there. You wash them, style them, and sleep in them as if they were your own hair. They sit safely on your natural hair, too, with practically zero damage when applied and maintained correctly. And when you need a refresh, your stylist simply moves them up as your hair grows.

Who Tape In Extensions Are For

Tape ins work well for most hair types, especially fine to medium density hair. The flat wefts sit close to the scalp and distribute weight evenly, so you get natural-looking volume and length without bulk or root visibility.

They are a good fit if you can commit to maintenance appointments every 6 to 8 weeks. Without regular refits, natural hair growth and shed hair can tangle around the bonds, causing strain on your scalp.

They may not suit you if you have very fine or fragile hair where the bonds could show through, a highly oily scalp that breaks down adhesive faster, or if you cannot commit to regular maintenance appointments.

Applying Tape Hair Extensions

Each style of tape extension has its own application process. The Invisi Tape extensions we stock are applied by separating the two pieces of tape and placing them around a section of your natural hair, so the two pieces of tape bond with your hair in between.

No heat is needed, and the process usually takes about an hour or more, depending on how thick you want it and the size of your head.

Each packet comes with 20 weft pieces, which makes 10 extension "sandwiches". Depending on your hair type, that can cover a full head or half a head. Contact us for advice specific to your hair.

Caring for Tape In Extensions

• Washing. Wait at least 48 hours after application before washing. This lets the adhesive fully set. When washing, use lukewarm water and a sulphate-free shampoo. Wash no more than 2 to 3 times a week. Over-washing loosens the adhesive.

• Conditioning. Apply conditioner from mid-lengths to ends only. Keep it away from the tape bonds. Conditioner on the adhesive can cause slippage.

• Drying and brushing. Blow-dry your hair before bed. Don't sleep with wet tape in extensions. Use a loop brush or flexible paddle brush. Start at the ends and work your way up. Hold your hair just above where the extensions are taped to prevent pulling at the roots.

• Product use. Avoid oil-based products near the tape bonds. Oil breaks down adhesive, causing premature slippage. Keep serums and oils on mid-lengths and ends only.

• Heat styling. Tape ins can be styled the same as your natural hair. Use a heat protectant and moderate heat settings. Avoid applying heat directly to the tape bonds.

• Sleeping. Braid your hair loosely or pull it into a low ponytail before bed. Sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase to reduce friction and prevent tangling.

Removing and Refitting

Tape extensions start to loosen on their own after about 6 weeks, which is your cue to book a refit. Your stylist removes them, cleans off the old adhesive, and re-tapes them higher up as your hair has grown.
