Colour Removers & Extractors

Hair Colour Removers

Sometimes to achieve a desired hair colour for a client, you will need to strip or remove a previous hair dye. Hair colour removers work by entering the hair shaft and removing artificial colour (even permanent hair colour) from the hair.

The specialised formula of colour strippers specifically target artificial pigment. This means it will remove any non-natural colours from the hair while maintaining the natural pigment intact. This means if your colour contains no dye, your colour will remain the same.

However, the colour removal process will not remove bleach, only dyes and toners. In most cases, a colour removal should be a salon treatment on its own, as it can take more than an hour to complete.

It's safe to continue on with a colour service after, it's just that it can be time-consuming for you and the client. Some hairdressers may suggest clients try alternate at-home methods prior to coming to get their hair coloured.

Hair Colour Removers, Extractors & Hair Strippers

Colour removers aren't limited to hair. They can also help to clean up spills around the salon. Sometimes colour extractors can come in a wipe form as well as a liquid.

Products such as colour remover wipes can be used directly on your clients skin to clear tint from the hairline. Additionally, you may want to consider a barrier cream to prevent the stains from occurring in the first place. It creates a barrier of film over the skin, preventing colour from staining around the hairline and it helps to prevent skin irritations.

If you're unsure of which brand of hair stripper or colour extractor is best suited to your needs, our friendly staff will be happy to assist you.

Your Questions Answered

Although weekly washes will gradually fade dye, this can take weeks or months. A quicker and easier solution is a hair colour remover, which specifically targets all types of artificial pigment deep inside the hair shaft.

In most cases, remover causes less damage than bleach and dye. Take an extra step to protect hair by researching wholesome options like De Lorenzo Colour Eliminator. Each bottle is free from bleach to reduce the chance of dryness, brittleness and damage.

Hair colour remover is not just designed for semi-permanent or demi-permanent colour. You can remove the toughest permanent colour too.

For the best results, we recommend waiting at least 48 hours after using colour remover. This is because the hair is extremely porous and vulnerable afterwards. You could risk unexpected damage or colour reactions if dye is added too rapidly.

Although every remover has different instructions, there are a few similarities. The first step usually involves applying an appropriate amount of remover to the hair. This is left on for 20 minutes or longer. The next step is rinsing the hair and admiring your fresh canvas!
