Your Questions Answered

Clippers cut bulk hair and length, so they handle the main haircut and the fades. Hair trimmers have finer blades for edges and details, such as necklines and beards. Most barbers use both, the clipper first, then a trimmer to finish.

Not always. The lengths line up because they are measured in millimetres, but the clip and shape of the guard are often designed for that brand's blade, so a BaBylissPRO guard may not seat properly on a Silver Bullet clipper. Stick to the guards made for your model, or check they fit before you rely on them.

Usually the blade needs attention. Clear out trapped hair, oil the blade, and check it is aligned and not blunt. Pulling on dry, tangled hair also makes it worse, so comb through first and work in smaller passes.

Brush the hair out of the blades after each use, run a drop of clipper oil along the blade, and wipe them down. Clean, oiled blades cut smoother and last longer.
