3.5 Vol Developer
Meet one of the gentlest developers on the market.
You can expect 3.5 vol to work exactly like other developers. Each use will raise the cuticle layer and allow pigment to plunge inside. The difference is the small percentage of peroxide only creates the lightest amount of lift.
The reason some hairdressers prefer 3.5 vol developer is the gentleness. While the low level of peroxide means there is less lift, you will experience less dryness and damage too. If hair is already pre-lightened or structurally compromised, you can create a subtle transformation without the usual side effects.
Another alternative is zero lift developer if you want to deposit colour without any lift at all. You can also level up with 5 vol developer and 10 vol developer.
Developer, Bleach & Lightener
Although 3.5 developers can be used with bleach and lightener, keep in mind the combination will not be extremely powerful.
You should also remember to double-check the compatibility of developers, bleaches and lighteners before mixing them. Oftentimes, it's best to use two products from the same brand, such as Limitless Crème Developer 3.5Vol and Limitless Lightening Powder Dust Free White.
Reading colour charts can help you keep updated about the best combinations too.
Developer or Peroxide in 3.5 Vol?
Peroxide and developers share some similarities, but there are plenty of differences. For instance, developer has a thicker consistency and less chance of leaking, which is ideal for balayage. You can also relax knowing developer contains extra conditioning properties to maintain a healthier appearance.
Nevertheless, some professionals prefer peroxide. This is because peroxide offers faster processing and greater versatility. It's perfect for colouring using traditional foils.
