Barber Cutting Blades for The Modern Man

Professional barbers have a pretty clear picture of the qualities they look for in barber blades and razors. A good barber blade should provide the closest shave to the skin for a smooth touch. Barber cutting tools need to be able to also give that afternoon shadow too. Durability should be without skin irritation and ingrown hairs and prove its cost-effectiveness over time. It's a bonus if you find a razor or shavers that are long-lasting, although most are single-use.

Barber Razors: Handle Styles and Blade Materials

Quality barber blades have handles made from stainless steel, wood, or resin. The material is not only a question of looks but style. The design will impact hygiene and how the tool feels in your hand. In turn, it will affect your technique and how pleasant the barbering technique feels for your client.

Disposable barber blades can be replaced on your favourite handle. Therefore, if you find a handle that is a keeper, you can only replace the blade and hold on to the benefits of the handle style. Wooden or resin handles are best used with disposable blades because you will be able to clean the blades separately and maintain high hygiene standards. They are lighter than stainless steel handles too. So, if you replace one with the other make sure to practice carefully until you get used to the new weight of the barber blade. The blade itself is typically made of Japanese stainless steel for a smooth finish while barber cutting.

How to Maintain Barber Blades

Barber blades and classic straight razors can be used safely by properly sanitized them after each use. Traditional barbershops used soap and hot water. They would then sharpen after each session. Modern-day salons require using a sanitizer or a disinfectant which will remove any possible remaining bacteria from the blade. Unless clients insist on a single-use razor, you can provide the traditional barber culture shaving experience with disinfected straight razors. This is especially great for clients who like the feel of 50s style barbershops.
