Hair Treatments

Hair treatments are stronger products for when your hair needs more than a mask can give. They're for people with damage from bleach, colour, or heat, or for those with scalp issues or very dry, brittle ends that won't improve with regular care.

Treatments come in a few types. Bond builders for broken hair, protein treatments for weak strands, scalp treatments for buildup and irritation, oils for shine and smoothness, and leave-ins that protect hair through the day. Some are single-use, others are used weekly.

If masks and conditioners haven't helped, or your hair has just been through a heavy chemical service, a treatment is the next step. You don't use one every wash, but when your hair needs serious help, it does what lighter products can't.

Which Hair Treatment Does What

Hair treatments aren't one-size-fits-all. Each type targets a different concern, so here's what to reach for and when.

  • Hair loss and thinning. These work on strength and the scalp, not miracles. Protein and biotin strengthen strands and reduce breakage that can appear as thinning, while ingredients like caffeine and niacinamide help support the scalp. Results vary and take 3 to 6 months of daily use. If nothing changes after six months, a dermatologist can help.

  • Keratin and reconstruction kits. These go beyond a standalone keratin mask, with a two- or three-step process that cleanses, rebuilds with protein, and then seals. Use weekly for severe damage or monthly for upkeep, and not on healthy hair, since protein overload is real.

  • Hair colour treatments. Glosses, glazes, and demi-permanent colours that refresh faded tone without lifting or damaging hair. They suit coloured hair that's dropped a level or two, but won't cover grey, lighten, or change your colour. Leave on for 5 to 20 minutes, then skip shampoo for 24 to 48 hours afterwards.

  • Scalp treatments. These work on the skin your hair grows from. A flaky, itchy scalp usually needs the buildup lifted away, an oily one needs its oil brought back into balance, and a dry, tight one needs moisture put back in. Match the scalp care to what your scalp is doing, and if symptoms don't ease after four weeks, see a dermatologist.

  • Head lice care. These work when you follow the label exactly. Most need two rounds, 7 to 10 days apart, plus combing with a fine-toothed comb every 2 to 3 days for two weeks. Wash bedding and hats on high heat, since lice don't survive it.

Hair Treatments in the Salon and at Home

A treatment mask after a colouring service is a smart add-on, so if you colour your own hair or you're a stylist working through clients, it's worth keeping on hand. Bleaching and colouring wear hair down, and a treatment helps restore condition. Reach for one whenever you colour or pick up hair dye.

At home, the routine holds it together. Work a mask in at least once a week to keep hair conditioned and protected. Apply it after shampooing, when the cuticle is open, and the mask can sink in. If your hair runs oily, a clarifying shampoo helps first; for coloured hair, a colour shampoo helps protect the tone. Leave the mask on for 3 to 5 minutes, then rinse.

Why AMR’s Professional Hair Treatments Work Better

Professional hair treatments use higher concentrations of active ingredients and more refined molecules that can actually penetrate the hair shaft rather than just coating the surface. Bond builders reconnect broken disulphide bonds at a molecular level, protein treatments use hydrolysed keratin small enough to enter the cortex, and oil treatments are formulated with pure, high-grade oils that absorb rather than sit on top. Cheaper alternatives often dilute these key ingredients or use larger molecules that can't get past the cuticle, which is why they feel nice in the moment but don't deliver lasting change. Professional treatments also come with precise usage instructions, so you're not guessing how long to leave them on or how often to use them.

AMR's hair treatments collection covers a range of categories, from intensive formulas for structural repair to ongoing maintenance for colour-treated or chemically processed hair. We stock professional-grade treatments from brands like NK Goldilocks, Olaplex, Evo, Natural Look, Redken, and L'Oréal Professionnel, all shipped Australia-wide as part of our full hair care products collection. Bulk hair treatment options are also available for salons that want to keep professional-grade treatment on hand without constantly reordering.
